Weekly Recap: Legends, Reunions and Madness

Carnival Of Madness LogoIn this recap, we preview this year’s edition of the Carnival of Madness Tour. This year headliners Shinedown are joined by Papa Roach, Skillet, In This Moment, and We As Human. Yesterday, we covered the sold-out Cincinnati show at PNC Pavillion at the Riverbend Entertainment Complex. That coverage will start tomorrow, so be sure and check back for that.

Kicking off the week was Teresa Burke’s coverage of Philip H. Anselmo and the Illegals. The legendary metal man recently released his first solo album and hit the road with his backing band The Illegals. You can check out Teresa’s review here and photos from the event here.

Kicking off our preview coverage of the Carnival of Madness Tour, our first interview for the week was with Tobin Esperance from Papa Roach. He spoke with me about the writing process, the Carnival of Madness Tour and the evolution of the band. Be sure and check that out here.

Tuesday brought us coverage of the legendary punk rockers Rancid. James Waynauskas caught the band in San Francisco. You can find his review here and his photos of the event here.

Silvertide has reformed! I can never get tired of saying that. Last week saw us interview guitarist Nick Perri, which you can find here. This week was vocalist Walt Lafty’s turn. He gets pretty in-depth about how the band fell apart and eventually came back together. You can read that here.

In our continuing preview coverage of the Carnival Of Madness Tour, we caught up with Justin Cordle from We As Human. While new to most, We As Human are a fast rising band that are definitely ready to make their mark. Feel free to check out the band and the interview here.

Peter Frampton has long been considered a tremendous musician. His Frampton’s Guitar Circus Tour with Sonny Landreth, the legendary B.B. King and Frampton himself rolled into Cincinnati and we were there. Dave Puckett captured the essence of the show, while Mike Howard provided some of my personal favorite photos featured on Unsung Melody yet. You can check out the review and photos here.

Fellow Madness Tour mates In This Momemt guitarist Chris Howorth spoke with us about their new album Blood and their upcoming headling Hellpop Tour. That interview is here.

I took the opportunity to share my thoughts on Skillet’s new album Rise. It’s the only platinum selling rock album of 2013, which is amazing. You can find that review here.

A couple cool news tidbits this week. First, Stone Temple Pilots received their first #1 single in over 10 years. This one has Chester Bennington from Linkin Park at the helm. You can read all about that here.

The founders of Coachella announced a new festival in Monterey, California. The First City Festival takes place on August 24th and 25th. It’s on the same grounds as the famous Monterey Pop Festival. Full lineup and details are here.
