Lord of the Lost and Beasto Blanco in Denver, Colorado
“Some people want it to happen, some wish it would happen, others make it happen.” German industrial dark rock band Lord of the Lost has seen their career skyrocketed, bringing them in front of much larger music fans. Metal icons Iron Maiden hand picked them in 2022 and again in 2023 to provide direct support for their European leg of the Legacy of the Beast Tour, the band landed at #1 on the German music charts for a surprise release of their 2022 album “Blood & Glitter”, and recently represented Germany in the famous Eurovision song contest. After ten years the band finally is back on US soil and reached new altitudes at the Summit Music Hall – Tuesday September 24, in Denver, Colorado.
Nashville-based Beasto Blanco opened the show delivering a instant jolt of animalistic rock and roll. Featuring Chuck Garric (Alice Cooper bassist) on guitars and vocals, Calico Cooper (Alice’s daughter) on vocals the shock rockers crushed a 10 song set. They opened the set with the lead single “Run for Your Life” from their recently released album ‘Kinetica’, produced by Lord of the Lost Chris Harms. The band sounded like a mixed blend of The Dead Daisies and White Zombie with a dash of Alice Copper on the top. The highlight of their live show was watching the interaction and chemistry between Chuck and Calico. Calico prowled around the stage wielding a spiked baseball bat while trading vocals with the growling wolf-like Chuck, resembling a metal version of Beauty and the Beast.
Dressed in all black latex, vocalist Chris Harms and the industrial dark rockers delivered a appetizing main course featuring a blended mix of new and old dark rock recipes in their vast 15 year catalog. The 19 song set sprinkled in a few newer songs ‘The Future of a Past Life’ and personal favorite the “Destruction Manual” from their 2022 album “Blood & Glitter”. For the die-hard Losties, the set included the classic menu items ‘Dry the Rain’ and ‘Die Tomorrow’. The band really excelled on ‘Loreley’ and ‘Black Halo’ from their breakout album “Thornstar” from 2018. Pi Stoffers (guitars) and newbie Benji Mundigler (guitars) provided the main ingredients and Niklas Kahl (drums) and Klass Helmecke (bass) added in rhythmic flavors topped off with the blended keyboard spices from Gerrit Heinemann.
If there was a theme throughout the night besides the music, it was gratitude. Harms on more than a few occasions between songs, thanked the crowd for coming to the show and how meaningful it was that everyone came out in full force on a Tuesday night. The band created a very inviting and inclusive atmosphere at this show. Harms mentioned that if there were more people like are seen at LOTL shows, the world would be a better place to live in. There were many interactive moments in the set but one highlight was when Harms encouraged everyone in the audience to join in and do a “one-person mosh pit” which consisted of each person jumping and turning around in one place during the song ‘Blood on Blood’.
LOTL does not like an encore when a band leaves the stage and comes back out to play a few more songs, rather they just play all of the songs and the night ends. The last run of songs included the covers ‘Unstoppable’ (Sia) and ‘Shock to the System’ by Billy Idol. The biggest interactive sing a long moment came at the end of the night when the band played ‘Blood & Glitter’. Harms talked about how important this song has become for the band as their performance of it was viewed by more that 200 million people worldwide during the Eurovision song contest in 2023.
LOTL has now played for audiences in 40 countries. It may have taken 10 years for the band to come back to Colorado, the wait was well worth it and it won’t be another 10 before then come back.
