Live Review: Lord Huron Takes Strange Trails at Red Rocks

The timing couldn’t have been more perfect for Lord Huron to play “Yawning Grave” at Red Rocks Amphitheater Wednesday night. It was a dark and moody song for a dark and moody sky. The weather had just started to worsen as frontman Ben Schneider stepped up to the mic and sang:

“I know the rain like the clouds know the sky.”

The crowed cheered even as it started to pour. They had packed themselves in the venue to hear the band to a run through Strange Trails. An album that turned ten this year, but that doesn’t necessarily get a lot of performance time. As Schneider put it, “we haven’t played many of these songs in years.”

The evening was full of lore and storytelling and clouds of fog (both on and off stage). But it wasn’t just the atmosphere that was spellbinding. A mix of drums and bass provides a backdrop for hypnotizing vocals, complex guitar work and a lighting show reminiscent of a sunset. See our photos from the magical night below:
