Live Review: Gregory Alan Isakov Serenades Red Rocks

It was a homecoming of sorts when Gregory Alan Isakov played Red Rocks this past Labor Day weekend. The singer-songwriter is in the middle of an international tour, but Colorado isn’t just another stop along the way, it’s where now resides. So when the Boulder-based singer announced “it’s good to be home” partway through his set Sunday night, the sentiment seemed genuine. And the crowd – who seemed extra delighted to be there – cheered in response.

Isakov and his band played a mix from multiple albums during the 19 song set that included “Miles to Go,” “This Empty Northern Hemisphere,” “Sweet Heat Lightning” and a Ron Scott cover, “Liars.” They closed things out with a three-part, acoustic encore before taking a bow, waving to a sold-out amphitheater and promising to return.
